Are you redecorating or remodeling your bathroom? If so, you have a few things to consider when it comes to your existing fixtures. To create the bathroom makeover that sticks within your budget, you’ll need to ask yourself, “What do I want to trash and what do I treasure?”

If you’re ready to perform a bathroom makeover and you’re trying to decide what’s going to stay and what’s going to go, arriving at the right decision will depend on what’s most important to you and your budget. Ideally, you may prefer to totally destruct your old bathroom, but that may not be in your budget...yet. Instead, you may be better off keeping at least some of what you’ve got.

Before you proceed with a bathroom makeover, get familiar with the “big ticket” and the less expensive items. You’ll want to price out the replacement costs of the following elements:

Bathtub
Shower
Flooring
Toilet
Walls
Tile
Bathroom mirror
Bathroom sink

The real question is, are you redecorating your bathroom or are you actually remodeling it? Once you answer that question, it will be easier for you to decide about the above, individual elements. Are you giving your bathroom a facelift by replacing the fixtures and updating the colors? Or, are you doing a full-blown remodel?

If you’re redecorating, you may be changing the color on the walls, changing the towels and hanging new pictures on the walls. Or, you may want to replace the white blinds with curtains. These updates do not require any re-plumbing. In contrast, a remodel may involve throwing out almost everything in the bathroom.
